I did a U-turn

After posting to say that I wouldn't ever have a Blog, I now... have one. I moved all the content on my old fashioned homepage (www.tomfotherby.com) over to a blog format. The Blog format is good because you don't have to worry about outdated or stale content - You just focus on creating new content and let everyone assume any info written 2 years ago is historical and no longer applies. In fact, now that blogs exist I can't see how anyone actually has a homepage anymore. They simply don't justify the maintenance effort. With blogs you get RSS, commenting, search and a CMS for free.

I'm not going to have a blog.

I created this blogger user profile so that I could post comments on a friends blog (http://privatespyros.blogspot.com/) but I don't actually want to start my own blog. I've been in this game since I was 18 and started writing a paper diary. I did consider an electronic diary of some sorts but I collect things along the way such as bits of paper, photos, tickets and cards which are much easier to stick into a paper diary than to scan. Plus, as a programmer by profession, I get enough electronic action and I see my paper diary as the last bastion of old-skool handwriting. A paper diary (made of loose A4 sheets) doesn't need batteries, can fit in your pocket, and can aid creativity. One day I might convert my paper diary into an electronic form but only when voice recognition technology is perfect (I guess 2020). It might be nice re-living the memories.
